Primeras declaraciones de los detenidos | First statements of the arrested

June 24, 2011

The activists arrested last Wednesday 22 June in Madrid, were called to give their statements last night at 12pm in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. They declared that they are currently on hunger strike, and are reserving their right to not make a statement. They will shortly go before the Magistrate’s Court.

They have sent the following message through their lawyer, Daniel Dorado:

“We are OK. This is a clear attack on antispeceisist organisations and our work revealing the horrors of animal exploitation.”

José Ramón Mallén, one of the detained Equanimal activists, also sent a message through his lawyer:

“Those of us that are inside are holding up. Four of the activists detained in A Coruña are already on hunger strike, and those that are not on hunger strike are receiving lettuce and tomato sandwiches. They are trying to suppress us, and it is evident that the activism that is carried out by the people detained, is not the type of activism for which we are being suppressed. We are dealing with a police set-up. We are doing all we can from inside. We need you to join together, to protest, to organise demonstrations demanding our freedom. They are trying to stop our movement. Show them from inside and outside that they cannot.”

You are not alone! Video of the protests carried out so far in Spain:
