INTERNATIONAL DAYS AGAINST REPRESSION. Saturday 23 July
The animal rights movement in Spain is experiencing one of its toughest moments, twelve people are on bail due to their work defending animals and three of them have spent more than 20 days in prison. This is all part of a process to criminalize the movement, that’s why now is a moment to make clear that our activism is necessary and legitimate.

On Saturday the 23 of July we are organizing an International day of protest against repression in Spain.
If you want to take part in this day of action please take into account the following ideas.
Olaia, Eneko and Eladio released!
On the 13 July, the appeal presented at the Provincial Court was accepted.
The three animal rights activists, Olaia, Eneko and Eladio, therefore have
been released.
On the morning of 22 June, 2011, law enforcement and state security entered the homes of 12 activists in different parts of Spanish territory (Madrid, Asturias, Euskadi and Galicia). Many of the detained activists have positions
of responsibility in the organizations Equanimal and Animal Equality. Others have actively collaborated in the past in such organisations defending animals.
We want to thank everyone who has been campaigning and supporting in one way or another, these activists who remained unjustly deprived of their freedom.
This English documentary answers some of the questions surrounding the case of the activists currently being accused of crimes in Spain, such as: Who are the activists? What are they being accused of? Why are they being targeted? What animal rights work are their organisations involved in? Please share widely.

When you find yourself in prison, the support you receive from the outside is fundamental, it helps to keep your spirits up and not feel the loneliness caused by being deprived of your freedom and far from your loved ones. Other activists who have had to spend various amounts of time in this situation underline the importance of the letters they receive and the value of words from people on the outside. It is these shows of support that give them strength and that allow the warmth of our solidarity to penetrate the stone walls that keep them jailed.
One of the things that the activists currently in prison have asked for is photos. Write to Eneko Perez, Eladio Ferreira and Olaia Freiria and print out images of support from the campaign and send them.

My companions and I are all fully aware of the real reasons for which we are now being deprived of our freedom: the investigations into various centres of animal exploitation that we have been carrying out all this time, that reveal a reality up to now unknown to many people. A truth that is becoming more and more uncomfortable for those who profit from the exploitation and death of animals.
The effort of all these years of activism is beginning to pay off and because of this they want to silence us and put the brakes on our energy, but they have arrived too late. The emergence of national and international support, and this situation that various activists are entangled in, has put activists and organisations on the same side. They have given the Spanish animal rights movement a strength unknown before. This at least fills us with strength, and I cannot be any happier because of this, although today I find myself deprived of something I deserve: my freedom.
We will shortly announce details of the international campaign currently being set up by the organisations Equanimal and Animal Equality to support the 12 activists in Spain who have been unjustly accused of offences they have not committed, as a result of their extensive investigations into the Spanish fur industry.
